A fortified ksar of rammed earth on the Ounila River, listed as UNESCO World Heritage and the finest surviving example of southern Morocco’s earthen architecture. Once a caravan stop on the Saharan route to Marrakech, its walls have starred in Hollywood epics like Gladiator. Cross the river stones and climb between the ramparts for a panoramic view.
Combine it with Taourirt Kasbah and the film studios of Ouarzazate, “Hollywood of Africa”, on a day trip from Marrakech over the Tizi n’Tichka pass.
